Hans  P.  Hazebroek, Nature Photographer, Naturalist, Writer

I am fascinated by the amazing beauty and intricacy of Borneo's rainforests. Not only do these forests present an apex in species diversity — their stature is hugely impressive. The tremendous complexity to these ecosystems has only just begun to be unraveled.

I am a geologist by training and worked for 17 years in the petroleum industry, exploring for oil and gas in Oman, Norway, Nigeria and Malaysia (Sarawak and Sabah). During my travels, my attention was not restricted to the rocks but I also became interested in the living nature, in particular the tropical rainforest. I have explored rainforests in West Africa, the Amazon Basin, Papua New Guinea and Peninsular Malaysia before focusing on Borneo’s forests. For me, photography is an invaluable tool for making the secrets of these forests more accessible to others, encouraging them to venture into the National Parks, to enjoy these splendours of nature and deepen their understanding of the many fascinating relationships between plants, animals and their environment.
